So here’s what I have to say. First off, I’m sick and tired of the pony music community. I don’t mean all the average to sub-par remixes that people are doing just to become famous, or the 3948573948 remixes of anything glaze makes.
I’m talkin about the people themselves.
I too have noticed that some brony musicians have become more “elite” than they were before. However with every effect you would have to look at the reason as well. The reason why most musicians have become more “elite” is that a lot of new people joined the fandom and chose to be active in the brony music scene because it is a way to “internet fame”. Because of this the megaskype got filled with new people and had to be locked every night because it was on the edge of breaking. Furthermore was it way more difficult to talk to the people you personally know. This is why they migrated to other chats which had less of an “open door policy”
To me this looks like a natural reaction of the fandom getting more populated than it was before. I think it is perfectly normal for people to find it insulting to be an “elitist” in a community which has been really open before. When I began being active in the fandom around March/April it was the best thing ever, but I knew that there was no possibility that it would stay that way. My love for the show and the love for all the amazing people I have met kept me inside the fandom no lather what happends to some people around me. And trust me when I say that this fandom will become worse: more people will join, popular brony musicians will be viewed as gods a lot more than they are now and their ego’s will get bigger. The only thing you can do about it is tell them if you think that they have crossed a line but most importantly acept that a fandom will change and don’t get mad when it does it is just the way things work.
Well said, Dutch.
However, Im not convinced it’s going to get ‘worse’ so much as it’s going to change. You said it yourself, ‘fandoms change.’
There are positive and negative aspects to any change. Yes, the fandom as a whole has gotten larger, and while I’ve enumerated some pretty important drawbacks to that, there are some great benefits as well.
The same with the music ‘scene,’ … I mean, think of all of the people here who would otherwise never explored their musical talents, who are, in actuality, quite good.
I think it’s propagating a misconception to be so quick to label a shift as ‘bad,’ … it’s just a shift. Every change has good repercussions, and bad ones; it’s up to you which ones you choose to walk away with.
Reblog’d because of truth everywhere.
Regardless, what can we do about the change? If the shift really is inevitable, the only thing we can change would be our attitudes. I started making pony music because I wanted to give back to the community that accepted me with open arms, and by the time the brony fandom ends, I’m still going to hold that belief, dammit.
I haven’t reached the point where “pony” as a label is limiting to me. There’s still lots of genres and perspectives I haven’t explored within “pony music”. So there really isn’t a reason for me to stop making pony music. So really, I get to give back to a nurturing community AND improve my skills at the same time? I say I keep going.
I remember when I was new: everything was overwhelming. All the Skype chats, all the “famous bronies”, all the endless streams of knowledge people seem to possess in said Skype chats. What’s a brony to do besides 1. sit and stare blankly at all the things to be seen or 2. be so excited and anxious about the entire thing? I feel sorry for the new people coming in, because they wouldn’t have gotten the same amount of attention we would’ve given back half a year ago.
Let’s try to be more accepting of the “newfag behavior”, shouldn’t we? After all, we were all newfags once.
food for thought + much truth right here yo
Just ignore everybody and play TF2! WOOOO
"all of the big name musicians constantly whine and bitch about how bronies these days are worse than the ones that were around when the fanbase was starting."
The thing is, it’s sorta true, so one can’t act like it isn’t. Though I understand that it’s not 100% true; there are still good bronies out there. But it’s a fandom. All fandoms start out in which there was a larger ratio of positively to negatively-looked-at people being seen than later in time. Negatively-looked-at fans were always there (The whole brony fandom exploded into spotlight after the whole 4chan controversy), they simply get more spotlight as more people discover them over time, resulting in a bunch of criticism that EVERY fandom will just have to get over with. (Especially FOX…)
"Saying that bronies are stupid and you can’t stand anything that they say or do is really a poor reflection on your character, not theirs."
Well…if I say furries are disgusting because they publicly dry-hump each other in expensive fursuits and lavish themselves with Bad Dragon products, that’s not a poor reflection on my character. That’s simply a reflection of that person’s ignorance. They just don’t know what the fans of that particular fandom are (supposedly) about. What it REALLY means to be a furry.
In the exact same light, if I say bronies are disgusting because they blog their semen-covered pony collection on Tumblr and draw nonstop pornographic images of characters from a show made for little girls, that’s not a poor reflection on my character. That’s also simply a reflection of that person’s ignorance. They just don’t know what the fans of that particular fandom are (supposedly) about. What it REALLY means to be a brony.
Making negative comments on a fandom doesn’t make the commentator a bad person. It makes him an unknowledgeable person. And like I said before, this exists in ALL fandoms.
"Needless to say, I’m sick and tired of people having this massive “holier than thou” attitude about other bronies, or newer musicians."
IT WILL HAPPEN.
Purple Tinker is to Varka what Skoon is to Narse. Mic the Microphone is to 2 the Ranting Gryphon what Sethisto is to Dragoneer. And KnotCast is to POMFCast what FurCast is to Everfree Radio.
I know this is hilariously inaccurate but try to understand where I’m getting at. All fandoms have everything you hate about this one, Basch. Complaining about it won’t do you much good unless you do something about it. And even then, the problem will still exist. People are people. We are ignorant, evil, destructive, intelligent, loving, creative, disgusting, beautiful, and normal. And there’s not a SINGLE thing that you can do about THAT.
I’m not saying you’re wrong for complaining. I’m just saying that there are better things to do than complaning. Like loving and tolerating.
Yeah…so BASICALLY I need someone to do a funky guitar riff version of this very soon. I have an idea of people I want to directly ask, but if you want to go ahead and try making a funky riff from this rhythm, go ahead! Anyone who does will get a free track from any of my past singles or albums :)
Stupid post, but i actually went out of my way to make a list of any stupid band names that i could unfortunately see a Metalcore or Indie/Hipster band using. (with exception to “Dead Hipster Storage”, which was almost the name of a short-lived band i was in)
Maybe more on the way, probably not. Not so much a funny post as it is a stupid one. Figured i’d put these out just incase any unfortunate SOB’s thought one was interesting (again, except Dead Hipster Storage. i think my old bassist still wants to use that one)
You should add Blood On The Dance Floor, I Set My Friends On Fire, and brokeNCYDE to the list.

“This is for the niggas in the suburbs
And the white kids with nigga friends who say the n-word
And the ones that got called weird, fag, bitch, nerd
Cause you was into jazz, kitty cats, and Steven Spielberg
They say we ain’t actin’ right
Always try to turn our fuckin’ color into black and white
But they’ll never change ‘em, never understand ‘em
Radical’s my anthem, turn my fucking amps up
So instead of critiquing and bitchin’, bein’ mad as fuck
